You know how people warn you before you go.. no it’s so touristy and tacky? Thats what people had been saying to me about the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but I LOVED it.
I found the lights, the tourists, the movie premiere and the christmas decorations enchanting. I Even liked the Super sized souvenir stores.. talk about going all out! I guess everybody has their own traditions and milestones throughout the year.. for me The Oscars is one og my favorite traditions. For the past 10 years I have tried to watch it every year.
The tradition started with my roommate, we would buy tickets to go watch it in the movie theater, it wasn’t broadcast on Danish tv. Later my sister and I watched it together wither other friends. And now my wonderful husband actually joined me.. because of the timedifference we have to stay awake til 1 or 2 am before it starts. So seeing the Dolby theatre was a lot of fun for me.
The walk of fame was just fun.. seeing all the different peoples names on the stars.. even Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh has a star:)
The Hollywood Walk of Fame was created as a means to an end. The sidewalks were derelict and needed work, but there was no money for the work. So by some creative thinking some one (who in my opinion should have his/her own star) comes up with the idea to get the rich people og the movie business to pay. It cost 15.000 USD to become part of the Walk of Fame club.. and most money is still used to maintain the area I believe.. pretty cool:)
We both loved this area and in the dark it looks amazing with all the neon signs and lights everywhere. If you go, make sure you have enough time, take time to enjoy this crazy stretch of Hollywood history.
